San Gervasio - Mayan Ruins in Cozumel

It is the largest archaeological site on the island covering 3 square kilometers (1.9 square miles). It is the very spot where thousands of Mayan women met to worship the goddess Ixchel, creator of medicine and textiles, assuring fertility and protection on the part of the pilgrims. It was also a strategic site for commerce and political advancement. Because of this San Gervasio is one of the most well known and visited sites on the island.
