Isla Contoy
Located just 45 minutes to the north of Isla Mujeres, Contoy is an uninhabited island that has been a protected nature sanctuary for birds for the last two decades. Isla Contoy has a lookout tower with a spectacular panoramic view. We recommend that you make reservations beforehand as they only admit a limited number of visitors per day.
The Garrafon Natural Reef Park
It is situated in Isla Mujeres Mexico and will surprise you with its natural beauty and fascinating adventures in, and out, of the water. Farm of Tourtle
Each year in the months from May to September, Isla Mujeres is visited by giant sea turtles which come to nestin the soft sanduntil their young come out of their shells. The giant sea turtle is protected by the government due to the fact that many years ago they were hunted for their meat and shells. At the turtle farm they are protected and the babies are kept in tanks to be freed later by the children of local schools. A visit to this place is almost obligatory.
Hacienda Mundaca
Made by the well known pirate Fermin Mundaca, it covers about forty per cent of the island. The legend says that the pirate created his own private paradise in a sunny, beautiful place to court a local girl. He surrounded his place with beautiful gardens; nevertheless, the young girl never accepted. Today the mansion known as Hacienda Mundaca, remains in ruins and is visited by tourists attracted by the fame of the pirate.
Shopping In isla Mujeres
This is the ideal place for collectors who enjoy shopping for original articles from around the world. Here they can find an enormous quantity of elaborate handcrafts with shells, starfish and sand made by the local islanders.
In the center of Isla Mujeres are numerous and picturesque artisan shops where you can buy sombreros, hammocks, necklaces, bracelets and earrings with inlays of precious stones. Likewise you can buy clothes in the small shops or in exclusive boutiques.
Restaurants in Isla Mujeres
You cannot leave Isla Mujeres without tasting the famous dish called "Tikinchic" which is a grilled golden fish marinated with a mix of achiote and sour orange. But there is much more that one dish to enjoy in the restaurants on the beach or on the main road from Yucatecan, Italian, Swiss and French cuisine, as well as others world flavors.
