Cenotes of Cuzama
Famous in the region for its cenotes and the particular way of going to them. The trip through the different cenotes is done in “trucks” that are little cars pulled by horses through 7 kilometers in roads full of weeds, adding an incredible adventure flavor to the trip. The region is classified as semi-dry warm with summer rains, taking place during this season the so-called mid-summer droughts. It has an average yearly temperature of 26.3o. C
Most of the municipality’s surface is dedicated to the season agriculture. There are classified portions with secondary vegetation, whose most plentiful species are biretta, poppy, ceiba and pochote.
Respecting to the fauna the most important species are: rabbits, raccoons, saraguatos, frogs, toads, iguanas, snakes and lizards.
The most important cenotes in this zone are: Chelentun, Chak-Zink-Che and Bolom-Chojol
Chelentun Cenote
This cenote is considered as a training one
by many instructors due to the fact that is mostly cavern with direct access to the surface with a maximum depth of 18 meters (60 feet) with a temperature of 26o C. and a 50 meters visibility. However it has two caves. The first on the right side that goes down to 30 meters (100ft) deep and the other at the bottom on the right side that starts with a minor restriction and becomes a major restriction and reaches the 40 meters (140ft) deep. At the entrance has good visibility but at the end its only two meters. At present doesn’t have a lifeline?
Chak-Zink-Che Cenote
“Home of the red ant”, It´s considered one of the best diving places in the state. it´s poll has an impressive sight with stalactites in the roof of the cavern. Here there is a chimney that goes to a little chamber filled with air with minor restriction. The depth is 40 meters (130 ft) and inside the circuit comes out a
“T” to interior caves that go down to 250 ft deep its temperature is 27o C and its visibility is 50m. It has a lifeline.
Bolom-Chojol Cenote
Means “nine mouse holes” close to the town of Chinkita. The mirror of water is located after going down 10 mts in a stair formed by “truck rails”. The water temperature is 27 degrees and has a 50-meter visibility. A pool with a diameter of 27 meters forms the Cenote; at the half of this corridor is the entrance. At the second level with a 40 meter depth. Has a fixed lifeline.
